Type A, Type B, and Type C jadeite: What's the difference?

The first question almost everyone curous about jade asks is, what exactly do all the different jade types and letters even mean? Well, it's a lot simpler than you think!

In Short:

Type A Jadeite: 100% natural, has never been chemically treated, dyed, or injected with polymers. All of the jadeite we carry is Type A, we do not carry any other form of treated or dyed jadeite.

Type B Jadeite: Chemically treated (ex. bleached) or injected with resin / polymers. However, it has not been dyed. This is typically done to cover up poor texture or inclusions that may hurt the value of the jadeite.

Type C Jadeite: Dyed to improve color, ex. from regular green to imperial green, the most expensive jadeite color in the world. However, it has not been chemically treated.

Type B + C: Jadeite which has been chemically treated and dyed.

The GIA grading system is exclusively used for jadeite, not nephrite, which is the second form of jade. If that's confusing, don't worry, we explain the difference between nephrite and jadeite jade here!
